Transparent Insight on the Unfolding
Mine is a new business, but I’m far from new to business, and in mid-December 2015, I decided the time had come to venture out on my own. Admittedly, transcription work is not the typical medium on which entrepreneurial dreams soar, but when you’ve got a typing speed of 90+ wpm and an accuracy rate even higher, it provides at least a good running start.
My background is one of providing office administrative and technical support (almost exclusively in the legal profession), with thousands (and thousands!) of hours typing briefs, letters, and multi-party discussions, many initially in audio form. In early March, that background met up with the WPE Positioning module and, with an added pinch of ingenuity, the sparks for this idea took flight.
Maybe $0.80 a digital minute* for multi-party discussions sounds a bit crazy, but:
- it’s a rate that provides WPE members a slight easing on the financial burden that transcriptions might otherwise present.
- it provides me the means to work while learning from others.
- it provides the group a comparative study and means to learn from the highs and lows — ah-ha moments resulting from questions that planted hurdles or opened new paths of discovery.
* This is a rate available only to WPE members and only for this purpose, so please make no mention of a discounted rate to others.
What To Expect
As soon as I have your transcript ready, I will email it to you for further transmission to your prospective client. (And yes, barring any unforeseen circumstances, turnaround will provide you the means to forward the transcript to your client within 24 hours.) Within 7-10 days, I will then return to you with any segments I thought the WPE wiki could benefit from, at which time we would welcome any additional thoughts/comments you might have, either independently or as a result of your client follow-up. Once all of the segments and comments have been compiled and refined, I will then pass it on to Troy’s team for inclusion in the wiki.
This is a group project, and at this point we’re all essentially our own guinea pigs. If at any point you have any suggestions on the gathering, compilation process, or output of information, please let us know!
